Samsung’s Pinetrail Atom netbooks get a closer look
Jan 11th

Samsung’s recently announced Pinetrail Atom netbooks all warrant a bit of your attention and Brad of Liliputing gives us a closer look at each and every one of them. As you probably already know, all three Samsung netbooks run on Intel’s Atom N450 processor which gives them longer battery life and less heat dissipation. But while the three netbooks have a lot of similarities, they all of course differ from each other in several little ways. The N210, the N220 and N150 netbooks are what Samsung will have in offer for the next few months, and if you want to know what makes one different from the other, check out the links below for the closer look.

Psystar get injunction from Apple
Dec 19th

Psystar allow consumers to purchase laptops, PCs and more recently netbooks, with Apple Mac OS X installed on the machine. After a legal battle from Apple over the use of the operating system, Psystar have now got a permanent injunction, preventing them from selling any devices with an Apple OS.
The company is also banned from “copying, selling, offering to sell, distributing or creating derivative works of Mac OS X without authorization from Apple” and “intentionally inducing, aiding, assisting, abetting or encouraging any other person or entitiy to infringe on Apple’s copyrighted Mac OS X software.” Apple have also recently released an upgrade, preventing netbook users, or any other Intel Atom powered device, from using Mac OS X Leopard. Thanks to the hacking community though, it’s now possible to bypass the restriction with a patch.

Google intends for Chrome OS to give speed boost to netbooks
Dec 12th
The new browser-based and light-weight operating system from Google which should be released sometime in 2010 aims to inspire awe and amazement in netbook users.
The new Chrome OS, based on Linux and unveiled just a few weeks ago, is aiming to raise the bar and set new standards for netbook operating systems. It is a simple, fast and light system that boots up and lands you head on into a web browser so you can get online as fast as you can.
You are helped along every step of the way as well. The Chrome OS relies exclusively on SSD (solid state drives) and therefore offers impressive boot times. Some tests indicate that in as little as 7 seconds will boot you ready to use the bundled browser and be on your way viewing your favorite websites.
Chrome OS blurs the line between operating system and web browser and offers a tightly integrated solution.
No Chrome OS systems have yet been released on the market and may not be seen until second half of 2010, but it is definitely on the way. Acer has said they should be amongst the first to release a Chrome OS device. One way or the other Google is going to unveil their latest project to the world and it should prove be a very interesting release.
