Ion’s iType turns iPhone into full-sized tablet PC on the fly
Jan 9th

While a lot of people seem to be perfectly content with using the iPhone’s on-screen virtual keyboard for typing duties, there are still those who would like to see a physical QWERTY keyboard attached for versatility. A company named Ion, which usually makes USB turntables and cassette decks, has now acted to turn this dream of many into a reality.
A new product of theirs called iType can accommodate any iPhone in its special dock and function as a near full-sized physical QWERTY keyboard. And it doesn’t suck off power from the phone’s batteries. In fact, it may even charge the iPhone via the docking solution it uses to connect to it.
Two prototypes of the iType were present at CES 2010, according to Register Hardware, and the company has mentioned that it sees a rough Q2 release date with a £70 (about $112 USD) price tag.

Apple Tablet to Sport a 10-inch Display
Dec 28th
Ok, call it the Apple Tablet, Magic Slate, iSlate or whatever – it’s still Apple’s most anticipated and talked about new product. Just last week, rumors abound and almost all the tech blogs/sites jump into the fray. Word on the street say that Apple is going to announce this on the third week of January 2010.
But wait, Digitimes may have mentioned one very important aspect of the Apple Tablet while reporting that Innolux, panel-making subsidiary of the Foxconn Group will be supplying the Apple Tablet’s touch panels. While another supplier Wintek is on stand-by as a second supplier.
But aside from this information, the report also mentioned this:
Apple has been seeking solutions to strengthen the glass of the 10-inch panel for the device and was forced to delay the launch until first-quarter 2010, the sources noted.
So, I that practically confirms the Apple Tablet’s display size, then.
Can’t wait for January 2010 and for the Apple event.

Magic Slate Apple Rumor Surfaces
Dec 28th
There’s been a lot (and I mean a lot) of rumors and speculations about the upcoming plans of Apple regarding their tablet PC. It’s even been enough to give a boost on Apple’s stock price to an all-time high. Some of the facts that help solidify the case are the reservation of the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco for a product unveiling, the fact that iSlate.com was registered by Apple and now news is they also have trademarked the name Magic Slate.
While Apple already has a product called the Magic Mouse, a replacement for the previous Apple mouse named Mighty Mouse, it’s likely that this will be less of a slate tablet and more of a trackpad peripheral similar to the Wacom tablets.
CES 2010 will be host to a lot of announcements by different companies of their own slate tablets so the pressure is on both sides: will Apple trump the CES showcase with their own device or will we get better products from the other side of the fence. Exciting times.
