HiVision’s $100 Netbook Upgraded to Android, Now Sells for $149
Jan 13th
When I read the news about HiVision’s $149 Android netbook broke out by Slashgear, I was immediately reminded that we once covered a similar netbook before. True enough, after search Eee PC Blog’s archive I found about HiVision’s $100 netbook.
So, it’s safe to say that HiVision has upgraded this netbook and replaced its 360MHz Ingenic JZ4740 32-bit processor with an ARM Cortex A9 processor with the Google Android OS, Cool?
Well, if you’re in the market for a 7-inch netbook with Android, this is your best bet.
Check out the video demo below to see how this netbook stand a chance against the netbook giants.

Android-Powered 7-inch Netbook Spotted at CES 2010
Jan 12th
Look what we have here – a 7-inch netbook running Google Android OS? Brad of Liliputing spotted this GL-750 netbook manufactured by Taiwanese PC maker King Yung, during his gig at CES 2010.
The GL-750 boasts of a 7-inch (800×480 pixel) display, 533MHz Freescale iMX31 ARM11-based CPU, 128MB of RAM, 1GB to 16GB flash storage. While the netbook is perfect fit for running Google Android, it can also run Windows CE or even a lightweight Linux distro built on a 2.6.x kernel.
Unfortunately, the reason why the company is displaying the said netbook at CES 2010 is probably to snatch a US distributor. Hopefully somebody notices it and thinks of distributing the said netbook to the U.S. market.

Datawind’s unbeatable deal: netbook + free internet for $199
Jan 6th
Datawind has previously been on our radar but dropped out until now. Brad over at liliputing got hold of them and they have moved their planned US launch date of their service to April 2010 at the earliest.
To review, the Ubisurfer (ubiquitous surfing, get it?) from Datawind is a simple 7-incher that also comes with 30 hours of free EVDO internet per month, all for $199. That’s it, no monthly fees for a year, no data limits and you can get another year’s coverage for $49.
The downside is that the specs aren’t that spectacular but for a small netbook just for checking mail or reading RSS, this would do the trick. And while it might be slow, Datawind does give it a boost by serving websites indirectly from their own servers instead of connecting to them directly. Privacy issues aside, this does make browsing faster and will let you maximize that monthly limit to the hilt. And of course, flash and other streaming websites will be disabled but you can still use a WiFi connection for those.
They will also launching a pocket smartbook as well, pictured below, with a 640 x 240 screen and $249 with data plan included.
