After pulling out the Windows 7 USB/DVD download tool on its website due to complaints that it used open-source code licensed under the GNU Public License, Microsoft has brought back the said tool to its site.

Responding the complaint, Microsoft has now released  the Win 7 Install tool as open-source under the GPL.

Peter Galli, Microsoft open-source community manager said:

“As we previously explained, the testing and localization took longer than we expected, but the project is now hosted on CodePlex.com, Microsoft’s Open Source software project hosting repository.”

And with this new release of the Windows 7 no-disc-required install tool, the process of putting it into a netbook now takes longer than before. This is due to the fact that Microsoft has included other pieces of code as separate downloads.

So if you haven’t installed Windows 7 yet on your netbook, here’s another chance to do so.
