LaptopMag reviews the MSI Wind U120, not so impressed with it
Jan 31st

If you want to know how well the MSI Wind U120 performs in real life before you decide to buy it, look no further than LaptopMag and its review of the said netbook. LaptopMag was unbiased throughout their review, but regular readers would probably already know that by now. Their verdict on the MSI Wind U120 is as follows:
The MSI Wind U120 is a solid netbook with a comfortable keyboard and a more stylish design than its predecessor. It’s also more aggressively priced. At $379, the U120 costs $70 less than the U100. However, the older U100 lasts 45 minutes longer on a charge, and both the Samsung NC10 ($449) and the HP Mini 2140 ($529) last more than 2 hours longer, although both systems are more expensive. If you care more about price than endurance, then the U120 is worth considering.

HP Release Protective Sleeve for the Mini 1000
Jan 31st
If you own an HP Mini 1000 netbook and you are perhaps a fashion concious netbook owner that wishes to protect your Mini, then the news that HP have released a funky and rather stylish official protective sleeve for their netbook may interest you.

Of course, there are netbook sleeves already on the market but, this official product from HP is really quite nice and at $19.99, it’s not too expensive if like me, you prefer to buy the official accessories to enhance your products. The sleeve is available to buy from HP directly here and for a consumers view on the new sleeve, check out the MyHPMini forums here where a couple of members have actually ordered and recieved their sleeves from HP.

Asus MID with tilting slide-up display shown in patent app
Jan 31st

Asus netbooks are among the most popular in the industry. Unfortunately, the same can’t be said about its UMPC offerings. With that in mind, the company seems to be planning to offer something slightly better: a UMPC with a full touch display first for input, and a full keyboard underneath it. What’s more, the company will make it so that the display can be tilted and positioned just like a regular notebook display, facing the user. Currently, this upcoming Asus MID/UMPC can be considered to be in the development stage, as only its form factor is revealed in one of the company’s latest patent apps, titled “Portable electronic device.” I don’t know, at least it seems better than the keyboard-less MIDs that they are currently selling. Perhaps, when they release a product like this in the future, we’ll see if the company can get it right.
