New Asus S121 Shows Up in Nice Photos
Dec 29th

If these photos of a new Asus S-series netbook holds true, then we might be looking early at what’s in store for the Eee PC series in 2009. EeePC News has posted this high-res photos of the new S121, which in all its goodness is nothing but a bigger Asus S101.
With its bigger 12.1 display and form factor, naturally its keyboard would also be bigger than the S101. But all other specs could possibly be similar to the S101’s 1GB RAM, WiFi, Bluetooth, VGA webcam.
Possible features could be both SSD and HDD storage and 3G connectivity.
Pricing and other details are still unknown, although given that this is a bigger version of the S101, we’re expecting the prices to be normally higher as well. The S101 retails for around $699. So expect the S121 to be price starting at around $799 – higher.

Notebooks ship more than desktops for the first time
Dec 29th
December 29, 2008 We’ve just passed a significant point in the history of computing – the notebook has taken over from the desktop as the most popular computing platform, an inevitable milestone on the road to ubiquitous mobile computing and connectivity. Fuelled by the success of the emerging netbook http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Psion_Netbook market, global notebook PC http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ Laptop shipments rose almost 40 percent in the third quarter of 2008 compared to the same period of 2007 to reach 38.6 million units. Conversely, desktop PC shipments declined by 1.3 percent for the same period to 38.5 million units.
In taking over as the primary computing form factor, the notebook is probably just holding the baton for a few years before its constituent sub-set of netbooks dominates the market – just 500,000 netbooks were sold in 2007, over 10 million this year and IDC predicts 40 million units by 2012. The emergence of the cut down, lightweight, cloud computing netbook has been the big story of 2008. It has taken just 60 years to squeeze a computer which filled a room, into a usable form factor of less then 1 kilogram and a price less than a weekly wage. One wonders what the next decade holds in store for us.

P Series mini laptop disappears from SonyStyle lineup
Dec 29th

We recently reported that the SonyStyle store had received an update, which added the pocket sized P laptop. With it’s 8″ screen, for many it hit the netbook screen size range. The 8″ screen also made it smaller than the current TT VAIO series which put it ahead of the TT in the lineup. SonyBrands have discovered that the P laptop is no longer in the line up at all. Whether it was added, or even removed by mistake, we’ll have to wait and see.
