MSI Reveals Various Plans for 2009, Touch Enabled Wind Coming Soon
Dec 10th
LaptopMag’s Joanna Stern interviewed MSI U.S.’ Director of Sales Andy Tung regarding the company’s 2009 strategy for their banner product series, the MSI Wind. And among the things planned out by MSI U.S. include, a new design for the U120 with WiMAX/3G options for its U.S. released happening in January 2009, release of both the MSI Wind U110 and U115 at the end of January, launch of a 13.3-inch MSI notebook called U300 which will not be branded as MSI Wind, and a touch-enabled MSI Wind to be launched during the CES 2009. Mr. Tung also said that MSI is not keen on bringing Linux-powered netbook to the U.S.
Mr. Tung also gave the following specs of the MSI Wind U110 and U115.
Wind U110:
- Z530 Atom Processor
- 1GB (expandable to 2GB)
- 10-inch LED backlight
- 160GB or 250 GB hard drive
- 6-cell battery
- 802.11 b/g/n
- 1.3 MP or 2MP webcam
Wind U115:
- Z530 Atom Processor
- 1GB (expandable to 2GB)
- 10-inch LED backlight
- Split SSD/HDD options (16, 32, 64 GB SSD, 160GB or 250GB HDD)
- 6-cell battery
- 802.11 b/g/n
- 1.3 MP or 2MP webcam
Interestingly despite having the same 6-cell battery, the U110 can give out 8 hours of usage while the U115 can max out up to 10 hours of use. This was maded possible by the Menlow’s architecture which would make the MSI Wind improve on its power consumption.
As for the touch-screen nettops, yes MSI Wind is prepping up a 17, 19 and 22-inch models of this Asus Eee Top rival.

Desktop Chargers for Eee PCs

Is your spare netbook battery rusting because you cannot charge it when you are on the go? No more worries, desktop chargers have hit the market to charge the spare battery when you are using the other one.
Extended batteries have been very popular among the users of netbooks because they make them truly portable by allowing long sufficiently long computing time before requiring a recharge. However, purchase of an extended/spare battery makes the original battery practically unusable because the battery cannot be charged off the machine.
Recently Cameron Sino has come up with an inexpensive solution to solve this problem by designing Desktop Battery Chargers so that the batteries can be charged off the netbooks.

It’s light, durable and tidy.

Akoya Mini E1210 re-introduced
Dec 10th
UK retailer Aldi are to re-launch the Medion Akoya Mini E1210. The E1210 was previously sold through the retailer in September as part of a promotion. With the promotion being successful the netbook will be returning to shelves this Thursday.
The E1210 features a 10 inch widescreen display, 1GB of RAM, Intel Atom processor and 160GB hard drive, with Windows XP being the chosen operating system. The Akoya, a rebadged MSI Wind, will retail for £272, making it a cheaper alternative to the MSI Wind itself.
