Why Asustek is Using Celerons on Some New Eee PCs
Aug 21st
In case you’re wondering why Asustek decided to release newer Eee PC models, particularly the Eee PC 904HD and 1000HD with Intel Celeron processors instead of the more robust Atom chips, this is party due to the shortage of the Atom microprocessors.
Speaking to PC World, an Asustek executive also said that Celeron chips are far cheaper than Atom processors which make up for a cheaper Eee PC end product. She also said that Asustek is focusing their Atom supply to the higher end Eee PC such as the Eee PC 901, 1000 and 1000H models.
In utilizing the Celeron chips on newly released Eee PCs also helps Asustek in maintaining a lower price for the Eee PC which is what netbooks and other ultra-low cost PC should have.
Asustek also would have like to turn to other processors but since the company has been traditionally using Intel products, the idea never came into fruition.
For their part, Intel claims that the under supply of Atom processors are set to be resolved by the end of third quarter. The company is rushing on the manufacturing of said processors since they themselves do not advice the use of Celeron chips on netbooks anymore.
So, if the supply of Atom chips would normalize, would Asustek come up with new models of the Eee PC or concentrate on making high-end notebooks such as the reported 12-inch N-series notebooks?

Bye Bye Eee PC, Hello N-Series Atom-Based Notebook
Aug 21st
Has Asustek reached the pinnacle of what it can probably bring out in relation to their Eee PC netbook series? Wait let me recall, how many Eee PCs have we known so far? 12 right? And that is in the span of more than a year or less than a year, correct me if I’m wrong.
So, it is not surprising that for its next releases, Asustek is prepping up a new 10-inch notebook with Atom processors in its new N-Series. Yup, although this new notebook, has the same LCD size as that of the Eee PC 1000, what makes it different from the Eee PC models and from other netbook will be the presence of a high-capacity HDD (around 320GB). Additionally, this notebook will no be running Vista Window instead of the Windows XP. So that means that this notebook would not have RAM module of lower than 1GB.
Said 10.2-inch notebook will have an SRP of around $477-9-$637. This falls within the price range of the Eee PC 1000 series. The question now is, will Asustek’s new N series notebook pull something similar to the Eee PC? That would be interesting to find out.

Although Fujitsu’s Lifebook FMV Biblio UB50 pales in comparison with the size of any regular netbook s around, it still is worthy of a second look.
