Despite the worldwide economic slump that is besetting us all, worldwide PC unit sales continues to post significant growth in Q2, Gartner reports. According to Gartner, a total of 71.9 million PCs were shipped in Q2 which is a 16% increase in Q2 of 2007.  Strong PC sales were registered in Europe, Middle East and African regions where 23.1 million units were solds.

HP tops the list of manufacturers who posted a growth in PC sales with its 4.5 million units sales followed by Acer, Dell, Toshiba and Asus.

Now here’s the most interesting part. Among the 5 brands, Asus enjoyed the largest growth with a total sale of 1.3 million PC units shipped. This is a whooping 159.1% increase from previous year. And what made Asus reached this numbers? – the Eee PC.

Now you know why, other manufacturers have been rushing to come up with their own mini-pcs and netbooks.
