Acer aiming for number 3 spot in US PC market
Jul 25th
With Acer’s global launch of the Aspire One XP netbook in August, the company stands a chance of challenging Apple for the number three market share position in the US, according to market sources.
Although Acer’s share of the US PC market increased after the acquisition of Gateway in the third quarter of 2007, the Gateway-brand’s share of the desktop market continues to drop, and Acer has continued to see limited growth, even after the launch of Blu-ray notebooks in the second quarter this year, according to the sources.
Acer aims to ship 5-7 million Aspire One XPs globally within six months of the netbook’s launch this quarter which should help the company maintain its number three rank in the worldwide notebook market, and could allow the vendor to advance to the third spot in the US, the market sources said.
The Aspire One XP will launch in the Taiwan market at the end of July during the 2008 Taipei Computer Applications Show, and in US and Europe in August

Asustek to Boost the Battery Life of the Eee PC
Jul 25th
We all know that despite the fact that the newer models of the Eee PCs have already improved on their battery power with the use of the 6-cell battery, still 5-6 hours max of battery would not be enough for some heavy users. So Asustek is determined to improve on the Eee PCs battery life some more by introducing some new features that will give the Eee PCs “whole day” battery life and internet storage.
Likewise Asus is also looking into introducing both software and hard upgrades on a monthly basis to fill the gaps in the netbook market. This is in anticipation of the growing demand for the Eee PCs especially in the Western European countries.
Asustek will also continue working with Pegatron Technology and is said to be most satisfied with the company being the Eee PCs OEM.
No further information were provided though as reported by Digitimes regarding the new features that Asus is planning to introduce in the coming days. But we expect to hear more from these later on.

Eee PC Accessories leaked
Jul 25th
Leaked images of the new Eee PC accessories were first found on a German Eee fansite with pictures of an Eee external optic drive, an external hard drive and a 3G network card.
So what can these accessories do?
- External optic drive – known as the Eee Writer, it can burn/read both DVD’s and CD’s
- External hard drive – known as the Eee Drive, it is unknown how much space capacity there is, but it is rumored to be at least 16gb
- 3G network card – known as the T500, it allows people who are always on the go to use their Eee PC anywhere, anytime.
Don’t get too excited though, it hasn’t even been confirmed yet whether these accessories will be available to the US market. Even so, I can’t wait!
