Amazon Starts Accepting Pre-Orders for the Eee PC 901
Jul 5th
Finally, Amazon has started accepting pre-orders for the much-anticipated Atom-powered Eee PC 901. It is slated for release in July 8, so you better start registering for your orders. And since there has been a lot of reports on the release of other Eee PC 900 variants, we’re suspecting that there wouldn’t be too many units of the Eee PC 901 available in the US market. So, better enter your orders as early as now from Amazon.
But, honestly, with the Eec PC 903, 904 and 905 coming, plus the 1000 and 1000h, would you still consider buying the Eee PC 901?
If you do, be prepared to shell out around $599. The Amazon Eee PC 901 comes with 8.9-inch display, Intel ATOM processor, 1GB RAM, Linux OS/Windows XP. Both the 20GB and 12GB and Black and Pearl White models are available. Funny thing is, there doesn’t seem to be a price difference among all these models. What’s up with that?

First in Taiwan, PCHome listed three Aspire One models, the Aspire One A110L, A150L and the A150X which we already told you about. The same Aspire One models were also listed in German site Geizhals.at while T-Online Germany has the A110L listed already.

Asus 904 Gets the Official Treatment, Sort Of
Jul 5th
What Laptop is reporting that Asus has officially announced the release of the Eee PC 904 in the next two weeks. According the What Laptop, the Eee PC 904 will have a full-sized keyboard (as reported in the past couple of days), and will have an SRP of around $582 when it comes out in the UK market mid-July.
Of course, we already know that the Eee PC 904 will have the 8.9-inch display of the Eee PC 900 series. But what we don’t know so far is that the Eee PC 904 will not come with an Atom processor but will instead be pre-loaded with 900MHz Celeron M used in the 900. If you would remember the Eee PC 901 already comes with the Atom processor and so we were expecting the the Eee PC 904 should also have the same processor.
In addition, the Eee PC 904 would also come with 1024MB RAM, 80GB HD and Windows XP.
Whatever the reason of Asustek in releasing the Eee PC 904 without the Atom processor is a mystery. Could be lack of Atom supply or could be part of another marketing strategy.
If there’s one positive effect that the release of the Eee PC 904 gives us consumers is the fact that Asus was prompted to re-align the price of the Eec PC 901 with the Eee PC 904. It was reported that the Eee PC 901’s price will be lowered to around $592 from the previous $651.
So, what would you rather buy? The Eee PC 901 with the smaller keyboard but with more powerful processor or the Eee PC 904 with a larger keyboard but with a less powerful processor?
