Asus to Revive the Eee PC 701 with the new 701SD
Jul 31st

Part of the leaked Eee PC roadmap that we’ve shown recently was some Eee PC 700-series units which interestingly were not yet available. So, this only means to say that Asus has not given up on its first Eee PC machine. Eeenews.de got some exclusive photos of the new Eee PC 701SD.
So, what do we know about the Eee PC701SD? It looks like the Eee PC 701SD will sport the same chassis as the Eee PC901 minus the rounded edges. The Eee logo will be on the top right corner, same keyboard, touchpad separated the right and left click button, and best of all the Eee PC701SD will most likely have a 30GB HDD despite the SD in its model number.
And of course, it will most probably come with the Intel Atom processor, otherwise, what is the point of upgrading the Eee PC 701 if it will still sport the same processor, right?
Price? Well, given that it will have a HD instead of the SSD, we’re looking at a lower price tag for the Eee PC 701SD than the original units.

Acer revises down Aspire one netbook shipment target
Jul 31st
Component supply problems and software development delays caused Acer to delay the launch of its Aspire one netbook by a month, leading it to revise down its shipment target for this year.
The world’s third-largest PC vendor now expects to ship 5 million to 6 million Aspire ones in 2008, down from a previous estimate of 5 million to 7 million, said Gianfranco Lanci, CEO of Acer, during a conference call.
“Originally, the plan was to ship by the end of May,” Lanci said. “We lost about one month for different reasons.”
Despite the product delay, Lanci remains bullish on prospects for the Aspire one. He said that demand appears to be strong for the product and that Acer is talking to 3G (third generation) mobile network operators to supply them with Aspire one laptops built to access the Internet via their networks.
Lanci was asked if the delay in launching the Aspire one was caused by a delay in the Atom. He declined to respond.

Jul 31st
It was only yesterday when we reported about Asus planning to release more Eee PC units in the coming months. Here comes Asustek Chairman Jerry Shen confirming that they are adding more categories into the line-up, and these are the Eee PC Ultimate and Eee PC Pro Fashion.
Geared for the high-end market, both Eee PC Ultimate and Eee Fashion will have dual-core Atom processors and larger storage which will either be 120GB HD or 32GB SSD, 10.1-inch 16:9 LED Backlit LCD panel, and battery life of 4-5 hours. Said new Eee PCs will have a price range of around $700-S900.
Asustek is also projecting to ship around 1.5-1.6 million units of these new Eee PCs by the third quarter to achieve the company’s overall shipment target of around five million units.
Asustek hopes to release the Eee PC Ultimate and Eee PC Pro Fashion sometime in September 2008.
